Dental Implants

Even with good brushing habits, the grooves and pits on the chewing surfaces of back teeth can be difficult to clean. At Happy Tooth Dental, we offer dental sealants as a preventive solution to protect these areas from plaque buildup and decay. Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the biting surfaces of molars and premolars. They form a smooth, shield-like barrier that keeps out food particles and bacteria. This simple and painless procedure helps reduce the risk of cavities, especially in children and teens, but can also benefit adults with deep grooves in their teeth.

How Dental Sealants Work

Sealants are made from a tooth-colored or clear resin that bonds to the surface of the tooth. The process takes only a few minutes per tooth and does not require drilling or anesthesia.

After cleaning and drying the tooth, we apply a special gel to prepare the surface. The sealant material is then painted on and hardened with a curing light. Once sealed, the tooth is protected from decay in vulnerable areas where toothbrush bristles cannot reach.

Sealants typically last several years and can be reapplied if needed during regular dental visits.

Who Should Get Dental Sealants

Sealants are most commonly recommended for:

  • Children as soon as their permanent molars come in (usually between ages 6 to 14)
  • Teens with deep grooves or a history of cavities
  • Adults with early signs of decay or at higher risk for developing cavities
Even patients with excellent oral hygiene can benefit from this added layer of protection. Sealants are a cost-effective way to help prevent more complex treatments down the road.
